Life is a rat race run against time
Life is a rat race run against time
By: James Linders
Those who are running it race down an endless corridor that eventually ends in the grave. By the sweat of our brow we are cursed to earn a living. The ones who survive are the wealthy and the unrighteous. The life that God envisaged for man at the beginning of creation is a FAR cry from life as we are living it today; plagued by hardships, torment, suffering, disgrace, sorrows, starvation, crime, disappointments, corruption, greed, disaster, hopelessness, manipulation, betrayal and emotional, mental, spiritual and psychological abuse, to name but a few.
Man’s wickedness is excelling from generation to generation. Life has become an entity to gamble away by greed for wealth that drives man to the edge of insanity where he loses his dignity, honor and soul. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer; an INJUST contrast brought about by circumstances that are destined by an INVISIBLE hand that tosses the dice. Those who have wants MORE and those who have little are deprived of the right to co-exist.
The arrogance of power-hungry politicians to betray and control the destiny of fellow men, for SELFISH gain is at order of the day and has camouflaged their ill-intended motives with the sweet taste of sugar coated words. Blind folded victims follow the mirage of prosperity over the edge of poverty and dreams that turn into despair. The ignorant are enslaved by the scrap of bait used to addict them to the hope of EMPTY promise.
How ironic; ALL that has been achieved between the day of our birth and that of our death are consumed at the end of the race by death. We’ve BROUGHT nothing into this world and we’ll TAKE nothing from it. ALL sacrifice; blood, sweat and tears are DISREGARDED by the laws of vanity. The rule-book of greed and injustice he lived by becomes the judge of his final destiny. His season of betrayal and unfair gain becomes the rope around the neck of his conscious that SLOWLY suffocates his chances of an honest discharge from life.
King Solomon, son of King David of Israel had THIS to say about man’s rat race:
“All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? A generation goes, and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever. The sun rises and the sun goes down, and hastens to the place where it rises. The wind blows to the south and goes around to the north; around and around goes the wind, and on its circuits the wind returns. All streams run to the sea, but the sea is not full; to the place where the streams flow, there they flow again. All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it…” (Ecclesiastes 1:1-8)
