Christmas versus the birth of Christ

Image
By: James Linders For centuries Christians AROUND the globe have been celebrating the birth of Christ on December 25. THIS commemoration has been passed on from generation to generation; parent to child WITHOUT question since 316 AD. As children we were made to believe that Christmas was about receiving presents, eating until your stomach hurts, singing Christmas carols and a man dressed in red and white clothes with a red and white cap on his head, who delivered presents under the Christmas tree. A distinctive feature was his long white beard and his strange habit of entering the house through the chimney. When WE became parents we passed this tradition on to OUR children, WITHOUT understanding the TRUE meaning of Christ's birth. In fact, we were NEVER taught that Christmas was a pagan tradition introduced by pagan emperor, Constantine the Great of Rome . HE was the FIRST person to celebrate this event which we as Christians came to know as CHRISTMAS. HE was the person who fabri...

Broken pieces of a shattered

Broken pieces of a shattered life By :James Linders Because Adam DISOBEYED his creator in the Garden of Eden almost 6000 ago, the world was cursed by God and our eyes are blindfolded by its initiator, the devil. Satan convinces man by deception that sin is MORE rewarding than the long-term promise of an eternal life. Whenever we want to live a righteous and holy life, our defenses and intentions are weakened by the trapdoor of a sinful nature. We become addicted to the affliction of sin, EVEN to the extent of spiritual suicide. In Romans 7: 18-20 the apostle Paul makes this remark: “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh; for I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I keep on doing the evil I do not want to do. And if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.…” It’s THIS trapdoor of a sinful nature that separates us from the love of God. In I...

Staring down the barrel of a shotgun

Image
Staring down the barrel of a shotgun By: James Linders Judging from statements made by various politicians, viral researchers, medical doctors, and now, by our OWN president, Cyril Ramaphosa, it becomes VERY clear that NO effective vaccine has yet been developed over the past eighteen months that could combat the COVID-19 virus and its variants. This creates a whirlpool of insecurity, uncertainty, fear, doubt, and a lack faith in the minds of world populations who are being forced to take a vaccine that needs MORE testing done before it should be administered to humans. Those incumbents who have already been used as laboratory rats to find an effective vaccine, are now registered as a readily available experimental pool for researchers and governments, to continue their tests on humans. I can't shake this nagging premonition that the world is staring down the barrel of a shotgun, with countless fatalities, if an effective vaccine is not found soon to treat ALL COVID-19 variants. ...

Life is a rat race run against time

Image
Life is a rat race run against time By: James Linders Those who are running it race down an endless corridor that eventually ends in the grave. By the sweat of our brow we are cursed to earn a living. The ones who survive are the wealthy and the unrighteous. The life that God envisaged for man at the beginning of creation is a FAR cry from life as we are living it today; plagued by hardships, torment, suffering, disgrace, sorrows, starvation, crime, disappointments, corruption, greed, disaster, hopelessness, manipulation, betrayal and emotional, mental, spiritual and psychological abuse, to name but a few. Man’s wickedness is excelling from generation to generation. Life has become an entity to gamble away by greed for wealth that drives man to the edge of insanity where he loses his dignity, honor and soul. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer; an INJUST contrast brought about by circumstances that are destined by an INVISIBLE hand that tosses the dice. Those who have want...

The biblical perspective on divorce

Image
The biblical perspective on divorce By: James Linders This article addresses Christian couples; specifically Christian believers. However, non-believers are welcome to read the article for educating purposes, should they wish to do so. South Africa, a predominantly Christian country, has some of the highest divorce rates in the world. Among these numbers we MOST often find believers as well who opted for divorce, rather honoring their nuptial vows which was made before God. The question we as Christian believers should ask ourselves BEFORE we take such a DRASTIC measure, is whether hardships, unhappiness, misunderstanding, turmoil and trials; all growing pains, are sufficient reason to justify divorce as a solution, ESPECIALLY if there are children involved. Let’s turn to the to the word of God, after all, when all else fail for us as believers, we should seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit who will lead us in ALL truth (1 Corinthians 2:13 “... we also speak, not in words taug...

Bloodline of a successful marriage

Image
Bloodline of a successful marriage By James Linders Marriage in ANY culture has ONE cardinal aspect in common: a life-long commitment between two partners. Nevertheless, the success or failure of the marriage is heavily influenced by culture and tradition. This article explicitly addresses the Christian marriage. However, Facebook friends that are NOT Christian couples are free to read this article and follow the advice it offers should they so wish. The Christian marriage is a life-long commitment and intimate bond between ONE man and ONE woman (Genesis 2:24), and is influenced and governed by Biblical principles. The success or failure of the marriage depends on how well we adapt to the following principles as suggested by Paul in 1 Corinthians 7: "... since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital (nuptial) duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body doe...

Old Testament tithing versus New Testament perspective

Image
Old Testament tithing versus New Testament perspective By James Linders SO many less fortunate, misinformed, overburdened and ignorant members of the Christian church have fallen prey to the loophole on this Old Testament tithing issue. Since the establishment of the Christian church, some leaders have grown fat and even became millionaires and businessmen as a Direct result of this technicality. Those members who are struggling to pay their full tithes are motivated with these words from Proverbs 3:9-10: “Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the first fruits of all your increase; So, your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine”. The members who can’t give their tithes every month, is confronted and sidelined with the text from Malachi 3:8-9: “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you ask, ‘How do we rob You?’ In tithes and offerings. You are cursed with a curse, yet you—the whole nation—are still robbing Me.… “ In the Old ...
